Heather Jackson deeply values her community. As a church Vestry member, Jackson helps her congregation make a positive impact in her local area. An advocate for second chances, she helps former inmates turn their lives around with ReEntry Services.
Church Vestry Member
Heather Jackson is the youngest member of her church’s Vestry. Acting as a board of directors, church Vestry members are voted in by the congregation. Vestry membership is a three year commitment. The Vestry is responsible for making pivotal decisions that benefit all members of the congregation. Devoted to her church and her faith, Jackson is happy to take an active role within the church. Each first Saturday of the month, she joins her church in cooking breakfast for the Union Gospel Mission. A group effort, some members help to prepare the food while others travel to Union Gospel Mission to hand out meals to those in need.
ReEntry Services
Everyone deserves a second chance. But what happens when someone lacks the necessary resources to turn his/her life around? Across the United States, people who are fresh out of incarceration find themselves in that exact situation. Initiatives like ReEntry Services are doing their part to ensure that said individuals are provided with the opportunity to start fresh with their feet pointed in the right direction. As a volunteer with ReEntry Services, Heather Jackson helps formerly incarcerated individuals re-enter civilian life as productive members of society. In many cases, it all starts with a choice to make a change. Heather Jackson is happy to be there for those who are strong enough to be the change they’re seeking.
ReEntry Services provides formerly incarcerated individuals with support and life-changing resources. Volunteers assist program members with resume building, job searches, interview skills classes, housing searches — and more. Members are made interview-ready, with a resume in hand and adorned in interview-appropriate clothing. Taking a hands-on approach, ReEntry Services goes the extra mile for individuals who truly want to make a change in their lives.
Currently, Heather Jackson has over 200 volunteer hours logged with her local branch of ReEntry Services. Those many hours translate into numerous lives impacted for the better. Jackson looks forward to continuing her efforts with the initiative. A U.S. Army veteran herself, she also hopes to volunteer with organizations that offer similar services to veterans. Having been through the journey herself, she knows all too well that the transition back to civilian life can be a challenge. As always, she supports her brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces — both veteran and active duty.
